Foundation stone laid 8 July by the then Mayor, Ald R D Jenkins, of Cardigan Priory at 2.00pm. Bells of St Marys rung; town cannon will fire 3 rounds on the Netpool; 2 old soldiers Stevens and Macdonald in charge of the cannon; police will maintain good order; town crier will announce the route of the procession on the eve of the event at about 6.00 pm; a market place, guildhall, divinity room and merchanics institute Carmarthen Journal 16.07.
Contractors for the Market – David Jenkins, Cilgerran and John Thomas, Llechryd; Slaughterhouse – Benjamin Jenkins and Simon James, Cardigan – and work under way 9.06.
