14 July (1944) More evacuees arrive

  • 14 1944 (Fri.) Evacuees arrived by train from Forest Row School (Sussex).
  • 14 1880  (Wed.) Eisteddfod held at Bell Court – behind Pendre. Pavilion holding 5, 000. The Chief bard was Thomas Davies, Llwynysgaw (Ysgawenydd).

17 February (1941) Evacuees have arrived.

  • 17 1941 (Mon.) 170 evacuees arrive  from Liverpool, including schoolboy Alun Owen, who later became a noteworthy dramatist. More about Owen later on in the year.
  • 17 1902 (Mon.) Registration of the Vale of Tivy Co-operative Society.
